Darien Connecticut

Part of the Connecticut panhandle, Darien has 16.5 miles of pristine beach stretching along Long Island Sound, housing five different harbors. This secluded bedroom community along Connecticut’s “Gold Coast” is centered around the small town feel provided by the relatively few office buildings. Commercial zoning is extremely limited outside the vibrant shops on the Boston Post Road. With so few commercial buildings, most workers commute to New York City which is easily accessible downtown by I 95 and two Metro-North stops, while the Merritt Parkway runs just north over the town border.

Once a seaside summer town for wealthy New Yorkers, Darien still holds on to that essence, but also has larger inland neighborhoods like Noroton, Noroton Heights and the highly sought after Tokeneke neighborhood. With a median home price over $1 million, Darien is one of the most affluent places to live in New England.

Darien - Fairfield County CT MapThe $73 million campus at Darien High School provides award winning education to students and the public library is consistently ranked in the top 10 in its size in the Hennen’s American Public Library Ratings (HAPLR), consisting of 1,690,000 books, boasting the highest per capita circulation in Connecticut.

The miles of beach line make swimming, boating, water skiing and fishing popular activities. The Ox Ridge Hunt Club sponsors an annual qualifying event for the National Horse Show. Of course, there are numerous golf courses including the Wee Burn Country Club. Formed in 1895, it is the first organized golf club in the state of Connecticut and either the second or third in the United States.
