One of Fairfield county’s most rural towns, Easton prides itself on maintaining its country charm and beauty. Hills running along the Aspetuck River and 10 working farms including fruit orchards, dairy and Christmas tree farms create Easton’s seclusion that draws those who enjoy the country.
Aquarion Water Company, the major water supplier in the area, owns half of the town’s property, including three vast reservoirs surrounded by 7,500 acres of forest, preserving the tranquil setting and limiting development. While Easton is filled with antique homes, farms and farmhouses, there are newer homes mixed in with colonials.
Connecticut’s first free school was established in Easton and it continues to provide a solid education for elementary and middle schoolers. High schoolers attend Joel Barlow Regional High School in Redding.
The town provides sporting facilities including baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts and 125 acres of open space for cross country skiing, horseback riding, hiking, swimming and fishing. The Connecticut Golf Club and Aspetuck Valley Country Club offer extra social and recreational activities to its members.
There are no major highways or commuter rails in the town, but commuters can catch the Merritt Parkway, I-95 and Metro-North in neighboring Fairfield.
