The gateway to Connecticut, Greenwich is world renowned for its luxurious living. Stunning waterfront properties mix with quaint cottages and condominiums along the shoreline, while inland rolling estates showcase architecture grandeur in the historic villages of Cos Cob, Old Greenwich and Riverside.
Culture flourishes with the Bruce Museum, the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra and the Greenwich Arts Council. The town’s public library has one main building and two branches, as well as the Independent Perrot Memorial Library, named for John Perrot, Old Greenwich's first private schoolmaster. While Greenwich’s public school system is highly-funded and high-achieving, there are also several independent and parochial school options.
Four public beaches compliment the numerous private beaches, and marinas dot Long Island Sound and inland waterways. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking and bicycling at the public parks are popular activities. Golf is available at the town golf course with five more courses offered at private country clubs.
Downtown primarily consists of Greenwich Avenue, the main street lined with high-end boutiques, restaurants and exquisite antique shops. Many other shops can be found along Post Road.
I-95 and the Merritt Parkway run through Greenwich, as does Metro North. The express train runs from Greenwich to New York City in thirty seven minutes, but Greenwich itself is a hot financial center, home to financial companies managing 10% of the $1.2 trillion invested in hedge funds.
