In the center of Fairfield County is the peaceful town of Redding, a rural substitute for the towns along the Gold Coast. While Redding boasts the wealth associated with Fairfield county, it offers seclusion and picturesque surroundings not always available elsewhere.
Due to a rush in development, in 1952 the zoning committee saved the pastoral quality of Redding by creating a two-acre zoning law for all areas outside of Georgetown. Georgetown, an area encompassing the four corners of Redding, Weston, Ridgefield and Wilton, is excluded from this law, still allowing multi-family, ½ acre and 1 acre zoning.
Outdoor leisure activities enjoyed by locals include hiking, ice skating, cross-country skiing and picnicking in one of the many state parks. Sunday evening concerts are held on the town green during summer months.
Redding has its own elementary and middle school. Joel Barlow High School, located in Redding, services both Redding and Easton high schoolers.
Reading can be enjoyed at the Mark Twain Library named after the famous author, who lived in Redding and donated the first book to the library.
Redding’s winding country roads do not include a major highway, but Redding does have its own station on the Metro-North line for commuters.
