Surrounded by water – the Five Mile River on the east, the Long Island Sound on the south and Wilson Cove on the west – Rowayton is the hidden jewel of Norwalk.
Although the area is a District of Norwalk, the friendly small town atmosphere is alive with its own post office, elementary and middle schools, a stop on the main Metro-North line, a fire department, library, arts center, historical society and beautiful beaches. Even the taxes
collect by the city of Norwalk are remitted and disbursed by the district’s three elected commissioners.
Though only 1.5 square miles, beaches are abundant, including Bayley Beach, which is owned and maintained by the District for the exclusive use of its residents. Residents can also join the Rowayton Tennis and Paddle Tennis Association. Boats are moored at local marinas and various arts fill the summer with the Annual River Ramble, Shakespeare on the Sound, the annual Memorial Day Parade and the Summer Art Festival, offering waterside concerts and art shows.
