Nestled in the Norwalk River Valley is the highly-desirable residential community of Wilton. Open lands and beautiful historical architecture are surrounded by the treasured stone walls that were built when early farmers had to clear hundreds of glacial rocks in order to till the fertile lands.
After an early growing boom, Wilton carefully controlled zoning which now offers homeowners one and two acre lots. There are four designated historic districts showcasing early American homes, but throughout the town you will see stately traditional houses, condominiums and limited commercial developments in specified districts. The post office and shops surround the town green, and the oldest church building in the county is located in Wilton. For recreational uses, the town owns 1,000 acres of hills, ponds, streams and woods.
Wilton’s educational system is dedicated to teaching children fundamental skills, but it also offers cultural programs and an innovated language lab to encourage foreign language studies.
Activity groups in Wilton include civic organizations, cultural groups, the YMCA and a town playhouse.
There are no major highways or commuter rails in the town, but commuters can catch the Merritt Parkway, I-95 and the Metro-North in neighboring towns.
